Ahhh yes... I do know about heat buildup. My A4000 has
PAR
TBC IV
Ethernet
AD516
two Quantum 540 IDE drives
one Micropolis 1.76gig drive
one Quantum 240 SCSI II drive
WarpEngine 40MHz with 32meg ram
After installing my last board ( AD516 ) the system would shut down
after about 5 minutes and the power supply would be very hot. It seems
to mainly be a power shortage in the supply. I now have an external
tower case that supplies power to all of the harddrives. I have also
mounted three extra fans. One large fan on the righthand side blowing
air in through a filter. One medium fan on the left hand side sucking
air out past the cards. One small fan blowing on the simms.
The power supply no longer gets hot but, the air comming out of the card
side is very warm. To mount the fans I drilled lots of 1/2 inch holes
for the vents and some holes for the screws.
Looks UGLY but what the heck. BTW if you don't have as much stuff in
yours you might want to only use the external case to keep the internal
powersupply in check. You can find 200watt cases for $35.
